Chobi Circus

ABOUT

Chobi Gyorgy maintains a successful career as a celebrated performer and a master rigger. A native of Hungary, Chobi graduated from the intense vocational program of the Hungarian Circus School. He began performing immediately with a nine-person teeter-board act called “Kiss Faludy”, which toured throughout Europe appearing in many well known circuses, including Krone (Germany), Trolle Rodine (Sweden) and, in Latin America, Circo Tihany, as well as on European TV shows. Chobi was the base for many incredible tricks like the four-man high, which was taller than the five-man high stack of other acts. His five years with Kiss Faludy culminated in a tour with the prestigious red unit of “the greatest show on earth,” Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey.
During this tour, Chobi developed a friendship with another famous troupe, The Flying Espanas. Deciding he wanted to stay in the U.S., Chobi became the full time catcher for one of the best flying trapeze acts in the world. He continued to tour with the Espanas in the gold unit of Ringling Bros., which played in Japan and Europe. It was on this show that Chobi met his wife Margie, who was a singer and dancer and whom Chobi spun on the Spanish web.
Eventually the Espanas opened their own show called, “Rimwood Circus”, in Barbados. This was a truly “hands on” effort for which Chobi and the team built the tent, bleachers and scenery, etc. from scratch in addition to creating and performing the show! The unique magic of this amazing company was based not only on consummate skill, but also on the fact that this ensemble of family and friends set their goals very high and dreamt as a team. These are qualities Chobi brings to every group he works with. In 1990, the Espanas were awarded at the Monte Carlo Circus Competition with the Silver Clown; one of the highest honors given in the circus world! When Chobi finally settled down in Orange County to raise a family, he again switched acts and created a number of world class statue of the highest honors given in the circus world! When Chobi finally settled down in Orange County to raise a family, he again switched acts and created a number of world class statue (or hand-balancing) acts.
